CENTRE STEER PROTOTYPE

CENTRE STEER 1947

ASSEMBLY : Solihull, UK
UNITS PRODUCED : 1 (Prototype)

PREDECESSOR : None
SUCCESSOR : Land Rover Series I

The Centre Steer Prototype was the precursor to the first Land Rover production models. It was inspired by the Willys MB jeep, and shares the 80-inch wheelbase and utilitarian design. The major difference was the centrally mounted steering wheel, which gives the vehicle its nickname. This was done to mimic a tractor, because it was designed as a farm vehicle, and to pass regulations in both left-hand drive and right-hand drive countries.
