SUCCESSOR : Land Rover Series II
The Series I was the first Land Rover model put into production. It was based on the HUE166 prototype, named for its license plate. It began as a single model with an 80-inch wheelbase, matching the original Willys Jeep. It was designed for light industrial uses and was strictly utilitarian. Eventually the wheelbase would lengthen and different body types would be offered, including pickup trucks and station wagons.
