The AMC Mighty Mite was designed specifically for the US Marine Corps, and is notable for its lightweight and compact design. Because of this, the Mighty Mite could be airlifted to the battlefield via helicopter. A variant on the design, called the M-422A1 was also built, which was 80 pounds heavier and featured a slightly longer wheelbase of 71 inches.
