The SJ Cherokee was a sub-model of the SJ Wagoneer, and the first vehicle to coin the term Sport Utility Vehicle, or SUV for short. The Cherokee re-introduced a 2-door version of the Wagoneer body type, which was discontinued from the Wagoneer lineup in 1967. A 4-door version of the Cherokee was added in 1977.
